A Million Songs
(Back Home Again In) Indiana – Glen Campbell
I first took note of this song, alternately known as “Indiana”, “Home In Indiana”, and many other names, about a decade ago, when I heard it on the Louis Armstrong album Satchmo At Pasadena. It swiftly became a favorite, along with that album’s “The Hucklebuck“. At the time, I had no idea how popular the song is, being sung at the pre-race ceremonies of the Indianapolis 500 for over 70 years.
A few years ago I stumbled across this amazing version by Glen Campbell on YouTube. Since I didn’t have it as part of my collection at all, it sort of slipped my mind. When he passed away recently, I revisited it again. And again, and again.
After a considerable internal debate, I decided I had to use Glen’s version, even though it’s not available commercially, which is sure to be a rare occurrence.
Because of the limited availability of this version, I put Louis Armstrong’s version on Spotify, and some of the links below take you to his version.
